Autobiography of progressive farmer released at agri varsity

Ludhiana, November 20

An autobiography titled “My Toil in Soil”, based on the life of progressive farmer Jagjit Singh Hara, was released at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. The book has been translated into English by Dr SN Sewak, former professor and head, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, PAU.

The book is the translation of “Dharti Putar Sardar Jagjit Singh Hara”, which was edited in Punjabi by Dr Ranjit Singh, former joint director communication, PAU, in 2018.

Lauding the efforts of Dr Sewak, Vice Chancellor Baldev Singh Dhillon recalled the long association of Jagjit Singh Hara with PAU and said the younger generation must be apprised of the toil, success and contribution of progressive farmers to agriculture. He said Hara had motivated PAU scientists to carry out research in new areas. An interaction of PAU students with progressive farmers will be organised soon to give them an exposure to various techniques, he added.

Dr Sewak said: “I was inspired by the life of Jagjit Singh Hara, who is a Padma Shri awardee and has an expertise in seed production. While translating the book, I realised the vigorous efforts made by him to emerge a successful farmer.”

Mohinder Singh Dosanjh, another progressive farmer, shared his association with Hara and said the book threw light on the life of Hara with focus on his family and agriculture.

Amarjit Singh Hayer, former professor and head, Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture, PAU, also hailed the contribution of Hara and congratulated Dr Sewak.

Mohinder Kaur Grewal, president, Punjabi Culture Academy, congratulated Dr Sewak and said PAU was a platform where vital contributions of scientists as well as farmers were recognised.
