The Punjab Government is running a government gaushala at Burj Powat village in Samrala tehsil of the district. In a bid to connect more people with this gaushala so that the cows can be taken care of properly, people can adopt cows in this gaushala by paying either monthly or annually.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Dr Shena Aggarwal said at present, there were around 300 cows that did not give milk, in the government gaushala. She said green fodder, husk, medicines and feed was required so that proper care of these cows could be ensured. This gaushala was being run by the District Animal Welfare Society with the active support of the Dhyan Foundation. She said the gaushala could not function properly without the active support of the people and that is why, a Cow Adoption Programme has been started now.

She said the people could now donate, as per their will, for the charges incurred on green fodder, husk, medicines and feed of cows. She said people could adopt a cow by either donating green fodder, husk, medicines and feed or by paying Rs 1,100 per cow per month or can pay Rs 11,000 annually and they would also be given a receipt for the same. She said if any person felt that the amount was too much, people could collectively adopt a cow and donate green fodder, husk, medicines and feed as per their will.

She said the donors can also celebrate their birthdays, wedding anniversary, mundan of their children by performing sewa of cow. The interested people can contact the office of Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, near Zila Parishad complex, Civil Lines or call at their phone number 0161-5017728.
