Boy dies while playing on swing

Machhiwara: A 12-year-old boy died while playing, as his neck got stuck in the swing at his house. The deceased has been identified as Lakhvir Singh of Ranwan village, near here. Lakhvir, a Class VIII student, was playing on the swing at his house. His father was away for some work and mother was sitting outside with other women of the locality. When the mother came to her house, she saw that her son was caught in the swing. She raised an alarm. After hearing her cries, her neighbours came and rushed him to the hospital, where he was declared dead. No case was registered and the body would be handed over to his guardians after the post-mortem. OC

7-yr-old dies in accident

Ludhiana: In an accident reported on Saturday, a 7-year-old girl died while her kin sustained injuries on the Delhi road. The deceased has been identified as Jenya. Complainant Mandeep Batra, a hotelier, said they were heading to Ludhiana from Delhi on June 30. When they reached near Dada Motors on Delhi road, a truck rammed into their vehicle around 6 am. His wife Renuka Batra, daughter Jenya and son Garbat Batra (3), and servant Raja sustained injuries. All were rushed to the Apollo hospital, where Jenya succumbed to her injuries. The police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver for causing death due to negligence. IO ASIPooran Singh said efforts were on to identify the vehicle involved in the accident.

Woman held with heroin

The Shimlapuri police have arrested a woman and recovered 10-gram heroin from her. The accused has been identified as Kiran Gupta of Ravindra Colony. IO ASI Kashmir Singh said the woman was stopped for checking during routine patrolling in Shimlapuri. During a search of her belongings, narcotics were recovered from her. Further probe was on to inquire about other smugglers linked to her. TNS

600 cartons of liquor seized

Samrala: The Samrala police claimed to have recovered 600 cartons of illegal liquor and Rs 1.4 lakh in cash from a vehicle and had arrested three persons in this regard.  The accused have been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of Srangwal village near Shahkot, Disha who is a resident of Gobind Nagar Shahkot and Lakhvir Singh Lakha, a resident of Ghabar Kalan village near Shahkot.  Khanna SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said a team of Samrala police, led by SHO Bhupinder Singh and ASI Tarwinder Kumar was on patrolling in the area. During patrolling, the police party got a tip-off about a vehicle loaded with illegal liquor for smuggling towards Rahon. 

Minor girl kidnapped, 1 booked

Ludhiana: The Haibowal police station have booked a man on the charges of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl. The accused has been identified as Shiva, a resident of Naveen Nagar, Jassian road. Complainant Rattan Mahto, a resident of Jassian road, told the police that on June 21, her daughter Sarita had left home without informing her family and did not return home. She suspected that the accused might have kidnapped her daughter on the pretext of marrying her. The police launched a search to trace the girl. In another case, the Sahnewal police booked Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Dharor, on charges of kidnapping a 24-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her. The incident was reported on June 24..

19-year-old girl goes missing

Ludhiana: A 19-year-old girl went missing under mysterious conditions. The girl has been identified as Sapna, a resident of Amar colony, Bhamia Kalan. Her father Phool Chand suspected that she could have been kept under illegal confinement by some unknown persons. The police have launched a manhunt.—TNS
