Nine-year-old Poonam, the deceased’s daughter, said there was a spat between her father and mother. “My father then started beating my mother and also pulled her hair last night,” she added. She then rushed to call her maternal family. However, the girl claimed that she didn’t know who actually stabbed her father.

Meanwhile, local residents informed the police. The body was rushed to Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital for autopsy. The police questioned slum dwellers about the incident.

The Salem Tabri SHO, Inspector Vijay Kumar, said investigation into the case was under way and the police were looking into different theories. He claimed the case would be resolved soon.

According to the police, the deceased was from Uttar Pradesh and lived in a shanty at Dana Mandi.
