While several dyeing units are on Tajpur Road, a large number of other industries are also established on Bahadurke Road, Mahavir Complex, and other nearby areas.

Despite being the industry hub, roads in these areas are in miserable conditions and give bumpy rides to the commuters. The industrialists and residents are hopeful that roads will be carpeted before the monsoon as during the rains, the condition worsens.

Ludhiana Dyeing Industries’ Association President Ashok Makkar said roads had not been carpeted for long and were dotted with potholes. “The civic body is provided with a huge amount of funds for the development of roads/sewerage systems, etc. We expect that the authorities soon begin the carpeting of main Tajpur Road and other adjoining areas,” said Makkar. “No formal complaints have been lodged, but the miserable condition of roads is evident and the authorities should take an action,” said Makkar.

Another Industrialist Rajesh Kumar says Mahavir Dyeing Complex, opposite Central Jail, Geeta Colony, and other areas are in real bad shape. “Not just private, but commercial vehicles commute on these roads throughout the day. These should be constructed with good-quality material under the supervision of officials and contractors. Presently, all the roads are in a shambles, giving a tough ride to commuters,” he said.

There is also a major garbage dump in the area where city’s garbage is collected and heavy vehicles are used to do the needful. But during the rainy season, vehicles get damaged and struck on the potholed roads. Following which, the garbage lifting becomes poor in the city. “However, there is none to give a serious thought to the problem,” said a gateman of a factory.
