Canadian delegates visit for collaboration

Ludhiana: A team of delegates from the University of Guelph, Canada, comprising Jeffrey Wichtel, Dean Ontario Veterinary College, Canada an expert in the field of preventive medicine, along with experts of Public Health, Maureen Wichtel, and expert of reproduction science, Pavneesh Madan visited Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana for exploring the areas for possible collaborative research between the two universities. All officers of the university, deans of the respective colleges, head of departments and senior faculty members were present during the interaction. Dr JPS Gill, director of research informed that university of Guelph, Canada and GADVASU has already signed MoU for research collaboration on area of mutual interest and exchange of scientists.

‘Pashu Palan Mela’ from March 23

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, will organise a two-day Pashu Palan Mela on March 23 and 24. Dr AS Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, said, diversification was the core issue nowadays in agriculture and we will aware and encourage farmers to adopt livestock on scientific lines through this mela. He said that livestock is best option for diversification. Dr. Nanda explained that diversification within the livestock enterprise is also a need of the hour. Not only Dairy farming but Fisheries, poultry, piggery and goat farming are the good diversification options in livestock. The value addition of livestock products ensures better profitability in these professions. GADVASU is undertaking research to develop newer technologies in livestock.

PM's speech telecast live

The Farmers Scientists interface under Farmer FIRST project was organised at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The objective of this programme was to show them web telecast of the address by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, at Krishi Unnati Mela organised at New Delhi. In this programme about 250 farmers related with Farmer FIRST Project watched the live programme of Krishi Unnati Mela at Silver Jubille Block Auditorium at GADVASU campus. Narendra Modi inaugurated the mela. Progressive farmers and leading states producing different agricultural commodities were honoured by the PM. Punjab has been conferred with the Krishi Karman award 2015-16 for best performance in raising countries food grain production.

CMC ophthalmologist imparts training to varsity’s surgeons

The department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology of the varsity in collaboration with Christian Medical College and Hospital organised a seven- day workshop on ophthalmic surgical techniques in dogs. Dr Gurvinder Kaur, Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, CMCH was invited as guest faculty to deliver lectures and hands on training in the field of Cataract and Corneal Surgery. As many as 12 faculty members and 20 post graduate students of the department were imparted training during this programme. Presently, the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology has got major facilities for diagnosis and management of eye affections in both small and large animals. Dr Gurvinder Kaur was highly appreciable of facilities, infrastructure, clinical expertise and variety of clinical cases of ophthalmic diseases like cataract, glaucoma, corneal ulcers, cherry eye and pigmentary keratitis being regularly treated at University Veterinary Hospital. — TNS
