Ludhiana, February 28
To educate people about the importance of getting registered as voters and exercising the right to vote, the Election Commission of India will organise the ‘Chunav Pathshala’ programme at all polling stations in Ludhiana district on March 2 and 3.
To make it a regular feature, the ‘Chunav Pathshala’ will be organised on every first Saturday of the month.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Jagraon)-cum-Nodal Officer, SVEEP activities, Neeru Katyal Gupta, said in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India is stressing on registering every single eligible person as voter.
She said for the ‘Chunav Pathshala’ programme, every block level officer (BLO) has been nominated as nodal officer.
She said although people from all age groups could participate in the ‘Chunav Pathshala’, special emphasis will be laid to ensure participation of prospective voters falling in the age group of 14-17 years (who do not attend school).
She said participation of newly registered voters, women, physically challenged, senior citizens and people of different sections of society would be ensured.
She added that along with creating awareness, people could also get themselves registered as voters through this programme.
Gupta said the ‘Chunav Pathshala’ programme would also be organised at school, college and organisation level. She appealed to the people to attend the programme in large numbers.
