City residents took immense delight in commemorating the 351st birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh preacher, Guru Gobind Singh. Gurudwara Singh Sabha in Model Town was swarmed with devotees, who sang shabads, including ‘waho waho Gobind Singh aape gur chela’ and ‘gur ka darshan dekh dekh jeeva’. Vendors sold religious ornaments and books for visitors outside the gurudwara.
“The environment is pious and divine. Yesterday, I slept only for three hours and today, I am here to render service at the gurdwara again,” said 15-year-old Ekuspreet Singh.
Devotees from all age group were seen performing sewa at the gurdwara. “Nobody tells you to do anything here. People volunteer on their own,” said 34-year-old Prabhjot Singh at the gurdwara.
Another devotee Amandeep at th gurdwara said: “Hum yahan sewa karte hain or bhagwaan ko yaad karte hain (We serve here and chant hymns in the name of God).” Langar was also served to devotees. People from all walks of life, irrespective of the social and economic differences, sat and savored the langar.
Celebrations in Sahnewal
Sahnewal: The 351st prakash purb of the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh was celebrated at the historic Gurdwara Reru Sahib in Sahnewal today. In charge Kaar Sewa Baba Major Singh said around 12,000 devotees from all over Punjab visited and paid obeisance to the holy tree of Reru, which Guru Gobind Singh sanctified by cutting a twig and preparing a datun out of it. The gurdwara was decorated with balloons. The sangat began to visit the gurudwara even before the day break to seek the blessings of the guru.
The ragi and dhadi jathaas regaled the sangat as they sang hymns and shabads in honour of the guru. The speakers eulogised the guru who they said was a true apostle of courage and indomitable will which shook the very foundation of Mughal empire in India.
The sangat performed sewa with devotion. Guru ka langar was served to the huge gathering throughout the day in the langar hall of the gurdwara. — Lovleen Bains
