Students, who took the maths exam of Class XII of the CBSE last week, want grace marks. They have said it was a tough paper and the pattern was totally different.
The students say both Physics and Maths examinations were very difficult. “I had a difficult time taking the physics exam but I was totally confounded seeing the maths paper,” said another student. “I botched up some of the questions I could have done well. The board must give grace marks at least for the unfamiliarity of the pattern and causing stress to students, if not for the difficultly level of the questions,” he said.
“It was a really tough examination and was of much advanced level. The board must grant grace marks for the maths paper,” says Rahul, a Class XII student.
Jaswinder Singh, maths teacher at Nankana Sahib Public School, said: “The exam was not out of syllabus or too difficult actually. Just the pattern was unexpected and not according to the usual pattern seen in the past few years.” He said there were two or three questions, which were totally unexpected, and these might have confused students. However, the exam was not out of syllabus.
Harmeet Kaur Waraich, Principal, Nankana Sahib Public School, said there was a change in the pattern of the examination this time. “The exam was not exactly on the NCERT pattern,” she said. Paramjit Kaur, Principal, BCM Arya Model School, said: “Students, who were targeting 100 per cent marks, are the most disappointed due to the change of pattern of the exam. The board may consider grace marks for the exam.”
