Mandi Ahmedgarh, Sept 16

The Swachhta Hi Seva campaign launched by the Union Government has been conceived as a comprehensive and organised cleanliness drive here — covering nooks and corners of houses to streets and to entire town.

Following tips given by campaign conveners SDM Dr Preety Yadav and Executive Magistrate Badal Din, leaders of various social and constitutional bodies motivated members of their organisations to clean their houses before the commencement of the shramdaan phase of the campaign scheduled to take place on Sunday here.

Social activists, lead by Rotary Club Secretary Ravinder Sharma, said members of their families had undertaken exhaustive cleanliness of houses so that the solid waste could be taken away by scavengers of the civic body on Sunday.

The activists argued that the cleanliness programme should start from smallest unit to the town level.

“Efforts made by the employees of the Municipal Council and volunteers of social organisations to clean roads and streets will not yield desired results if the residents ignore or stagger cleanliness of their own houses and establishments,” said Dr Ravinder Sharma. He said the delay in cleaning of individual units would dampen the tempo of the drive after the conclusion of the ensuing campaign. Acknowledging enthusiasm shown by social activists of the town towards the campaign, SWO chief patron Tarsem Garg said majority of members of the outfit had rescheduled their family chores with intent to ensure that their houses were cleaned thoroughly and solid waste segregated before the formal launch of the shramdaan phase on Sunday.

“Almost all members of our organisation agreed to get their houses cleaned today as a part of the nationwide campaign, as the event coincides with the festival season during which almost all families undertake massive cleaning,” said Garg.
