Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 6
The Punjab government’s approval to long awaited Pohir Road railway overbridge (ROB) project has been pitched as a major development plank by the leaders campaigning for the Congress candidate Dr Amar Singh Boparai.
The supporters of the SAD candidate Darbara Singh Guru claimed that the process of the ROB project was initiated by the SAD-BJP government led by former CM Parkash Singh Badal.
Meanwhile, residents of the town and nearby localities were seeing a ray of hope as the ROB would give them respite from traffic jams.
Construction of railway under bridge (RUB) on Jandali road has already commenced and the Congress leaders led by MLA Surjit Singh Dhiman claimed that a proposal to construct ROB on Pohir Road has also been approved by the Finance Department of the state government.
Residents had been demanding construction of ROBs on roads connecting eastern side of the town with the western habitation for over two decades.
Earlier, residents had declared that they would support only those candidates, who would assure to get the ROB project implemented.
A delegation of local leaders and social activists had also met former and incumbent PWD Ministers, including Razia Sultana and Vijay Inder Singla.
Perusal of a Finance Department (Punjab Government) communication revealed that five proposals worth Rs222 crore were approved and the Pohir Road ROB at Ahmedgarh (Rs32 crore) was included in the list of proposals on recommendation of the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
