DORAHA: The 24th CBSE National Hockey Tournament kicked off on Sunday at Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha.

The 24th CBSE National Hockey Tournament kicked off on Sunday at Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, Doraha.

The sporting event began with shabad gayan to seek the blessings of the Almighty.

Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police Dhruv Dahiya graced the event. He, along with other delegates hoisted the school flag and declared the 24th CBSE National Hockey Tournament-2018 open.

Dahiya congratulated the school management for hosting an event of such a magnitude in Doraha. He said, “Whether you win or lose, the most rewarding thing is an opportunity to represent your school and region at national and international level”.

A total of 32 teams are participating in the tournament and the Daly College’ Indore, (U-19 girls) lifted the trophy for the best march past. The school girls left everybody awestruck with their giddha performance, especially the players who came from Oman and Muscat.

On the opening day, two matches were played in the Under-19 boys’ category. The initial match was played between Som Convent Gururkul, Kurukshetra; and Convent of Gagan Bharti School, Delhi. Players from the latter school emerged winners by scoring two goals. In the second match OP Jindal School, Raigarh, Chhattisgah; thrashed Sainik School, Amravati Nagar; by 4-2.

Senior vice president Jogeshwar Singh Mangat, vice president Harpratap Singh Brar, manager Adarshpal Bector and Pavittarpal Singh Pangli among others were also present on the occasion.
