Ludhiana, April 10

Tightening the noose around youths creating nuisance with the altered silencers of their Bullet motorcycles, the traffic police on Tuesday impounded one such bike under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Additional DCP (Traffic) Sukhpal Singh Brar, who had installed a naka on the Ferozepur road, signalled a Bullet motorcycle with altered silencer to stop. The ADCP himself rode the motorcycle and found its silencer altered. He immediately impounded the bike.

The ADCP said the biker had also failed to produce the complete documents of the bike, which also mandated the impounding of the motorcycle. As per the the Central Motor Vehicle Rules and the Motor Vehicle Act, a silencer blast is an offence. According to the police, youths produce silencer blast by switching the engine of the bike off and on at high speeds. This way a firecracker-like sound or the sound of shots being fired is generated by the engine.

The ADCP said soon, the traffic police would start a campaign to take action against Bullet bikes with modified silencers. A special “nakabandi” would be done at strategic places to take on bikers creating massive noise pollution.
