Jagraon, December 9
A delegation of the members of various organisations met SSP Jagraon, Surjit Singh, at his office today and sought justice for Dr Sanjiv Chopra, owner of the Chopra Nursing Home, against whom the police have registered a case of abetting a youth to commit suicide.
The delegation, comprising AAP MLA from Raikot Jagtar Singh Jagga, Santokh Gill of CPM, Prem Jindal, and sarpanch Jarnail Singh demanded the SSP to conduct an impartial inquiry into the matter.
It is pertinent to mention here that the police had registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Dr Sanjiv Chopra on Friday, following a complaint by Surinder Singh of Ayali Khurd village.
In his complaint to the police, Surinder said on December 3, his nephew Pardeep Singh, met with an accident after his car collided with the car of Dr Sanjiv Chopra near Chopra Nursing Home.
Surinder alleged that Pardeep was beaten and harassed by the doctor following which he committed suicide by jumping into the canal.
The body of the youth was found near Tugal village on Friday. Surinder lodged a complaint against the doctor and the police registered a case of abetment to suicide against him.
The members of the delegation claimed that before colliding with the doctor’s car, Pardeep also hit his car to a tree and a meter box.
They said the staff of the Chopra Nursing Home informed the police about the accident, but Pardeep fled before the police could reach the spot.
The delegation members also said the CCTV footage of the nursing home also showed that Pardeep was seen arguing with the doctor and no clash was witnessed in the footage. The SSP assured them of fair inquiry into the matter. He also instructed SHO Sudhar, Ranjit Singh, to conduct an impartial inquiry.
