The Civil Hospital has been grappling with staff shortage since long. It was expected the problem would be solved to some extent after nine doctors had shown their willingness to be transferred to the hospital.

However, even after their willingness and recommendation given by the Senior Medical Officer, none has been transferred to Ludhiana so far. The recommendation by the SMO was sent to the Civil Surgeon on August 13.

During his visit to the Civil Hospital on August 8, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu had said doctors who were willing for transfer from the periphery would be shifted to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana.

Acting upon this, the SMO had prepared a list of nine doctors.

SMO Dr Avinash Jindal has sent the recommendation of transfer of these doctors to the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga.

The doctors who have shown interest include Dr Sheetal Sharma (EMO) from Rural Hospital, Isru, Khanna, Dr Amrik Singh (EMO) from Community Health Centre, Phase 6 Mohali, Dr Gursimran (EMO) from CHC, Hatur, Dr Simran Bali (radiologist) from district hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Ankush Bansal (gynaecologist) from sub-divisional hospital, Jagraon, Dr Harinder Sood (medicine) from sub-divisional hospital, Raikot, Dr Gurpreet Kaur (gynaecologist) from CHC, Sudhar, Dr Harpreet Singh (EMO) from CHC, Koom Kalan, Dr Manpreet Kaur (EMO) from sub-divisional hospital, Samrala.

Dr Avinash Jindal, Senior Medical Officer at the Civil Hospital, said the hospital was in need of doctors, especially emergency medical officers (EMOs). The flow of patients has increased and the Civil Hospital badly needs more doctors, Dr Jindal added.

“I have sent the list of the doctors who are ready for transfer to Ludhiana to the Civil Surgeon, but no action has been taken so far. The Health Minister, during his last visit to the hospital, had suggested this way out and we have acted upon it. Hopefully, the headquarters will soon act upon our recommendations and transfer these specialists to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana,” he said.

Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said he had already assigned duties to eight EMOs to tackle the rush.

“The names of the nine doctors have been recommended and sent to the Director, Health, but no decision has been taken in this regard. We are hopeful that they will be transferred soon,” said Dr Bagga.
