Double delight for Aishveer

Aishveer stole limelight as she bagged two titles in the inaugural edition of the Open Ludhiana District Table Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Ekjot Sports Club, Jamalpur (Ludhiana), today.
Aishveer wrapped up titles in the sub-junior (U-15) and junior girls’ (U-18) sections to prove her mettle. In the sub-junior final, Aishveer scripted 3-0 win over Hargun. She romped home victorious in style, getting the better of Hargun 11-6, 11-7 and 11-6.
Later, in the junior girls’ final, Aishveer recorded an identical victory (3-0) against Sargun Kaur, whom she outnumbered 11-6, 11-7 and 11-6 to win her second individual title. In the junior boys’ category, Vikas Paswan toiled hard to outperform Tamanpreet Singh 3-1. Vikas won the first two sets with an ease 11-6, 11-7, but lost the third one 6-11. In the fourth set, however, Vikas managed to get his acts together and won it 11-7 that also fetched him the title. The final in the men’s section, too, witnessed a battle of nerves with Tarun Verma and Sameer Sharma fighting tooth and nail to overpower each other. Eventually, Verma emerged winner by 4-2. He won the verdict 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 9-11, 11-9 and 11-8.
In the men’s veterans section, Harjinder Singh edged out Manmeet Singh 11-8, 11-7, 8-11 and 11-9 to romp home as champion.
In the lucky doubles’ section, the pair of Harjinder Singh and Sameer Sharma defeated Tarun Verma and Vanshdeep to clinch the title.
Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA, distributed the prizes among position holders. Fang Jiu Chenn, honorary general secretary, Ludhiana District Table Tennis Association, Jaspal Singh, former coach with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), and parents of players were present at the prize distribution function.
