Office-bearers and activists of various organisations launched a coordinated movement against degradation of environment due to irrational use of plastics.

Ahmedgarh SDM Dr Poonam Preet Kaur inaugurated the event by distributing reusable biodegradable carry bags among teachers and students of MGMN Senior Secondary School, which was declared to be a plastic-free zone by the management of the institute on the occasion.

Dr Vikas Raj presided over the inaugural function and Principal Viney Goyal led teachers and students in taking oath against the irrational use of plastics.

Acknowledging the role being played by government and non-government organisations regarding the preservation of environment, Dr Poonam Preet Kaur, said masses should be educated about the misuse and non-biodegradable nature of plastic products by organising seminars and workshops on the subject.

With the intent to make the message reach target groups at local town and surrounding localities, Dr Poonam Preet Kaur, interacted with students and teachers and persuaded them to play active role in reducing the burden of the environment.

Convener of the project SP Sofat said the RID 3090 led by District Governor Dr VB Dixit had recently kicked off the coordinated movement from various localities of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and the ensuing year was announced to be ‘Kick Our Plastic Year’.

Meanwhile, office bearers of Chaura Bazar Shopkeepers Association led by Tarsem Garg have announced to support the movement by minimizing use of polythene bags for supplying materials to their customers.
