With the commencement of new academic session in schools, parents have started worrying as their children have not been promoted to next class.

Rajeev Sharma, father of Class IX student of BCM Basant City School, said, “We have paid the tuition fees for the new session. However, the school needs full payment of fees inclusive of admission fees, annual charges, development fees, activities charges. The school authorities have issued the results of class IX and XI but have denied promoting in next classes until the dues are cleared. It is mentioned on the report card as well.” Seema, a parent, whose daughter is studying in Guru Nanak Public School said, “It has been one week ever since the classes have begun. My daughter has not been promoted to class X.”

“We have already submitted the complaints to Divisional Commissioner Patiala on March 01. The Divisional Commissioner instructed Kamal Kumari, the Circle Education Officer (CEO) to issue a letter to all schools not to withhold results. But even after repeated persuasion to the CEO, no letters have been issued to schools as yet. The District Education Officer, Swaranjit Kaur, has however said she had marked the inquiry to government school’s principals for the unaided schools. Schools are also violating the High court Judgment dated September 27, 2017, of CWP5802,” said Swaroop Singh, President of Parents’ Association. He further added, "As per the Punjab Regulation of Fee of Unaided Educational Institutions Bill(2016) any complaint received shall be scrutinised by the regulatory body within a period of 15 days from the date of its receipt and it will be decided within 60 days. A recent RTI on revealed that our cases are still pending.”
