As unipoles and direction boards came crashing down after high-velocity winds which lashed the city on Wednesday, various market associations have raised questions over the structural safety of billboards.

Punjab Chapter of Indian Institute of Architects chairman Sanjay Goel said a few direction boards fell down during the dust storm. “As unipoles are heavy, they can kill anyone. It should be looked into whether structural safety certificate was taken and structure vetted before installation of direction boards and unipoles in the city.”

Members of the Feroze Gandhi Market Association urged the MCto not allow installation of unipoles at Feroze Gandhi Market. They said a direction board at Pakhowal Road near Feroze Gandhi Market has broken and it may fall on commuters.

They also met the ADC, Saynam Aggarwal, and asked him that no unipole should be allowed in thier market.
