The recent raids conducted by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) at five industrial units in the city have yielded results. Apart from these five factories, as many as 56 units have voluntarily come forward to register their workers for PF deduction. More than 1,700 new workers of these industries will now get the provident fund benefits.

Sumit Singh Brar, Regional PF Commissioner-2, said all five units raided by the EPFO had been issued code numbers and asked to register all eligible employees since the day they employed 19 or more employees. “We will closely watch the compliance status of these establishments. If irregularities are found, then we will seek record from these establishments. There has been a positive result of awareness created by the department, as after June 17 raids, around 56 new establishments and factories, which have more than 19 employees, have taken the EPF code numbers through online portal OLRE. Most of these establishments are in the textile and hosiery sector. A total of 1,456 new employees have been registered with the EPFO in these 56 establishments. The number of new employees from the recently raided five factories and 56 other units stands at 1,734,” said Brar.

The official said the EPFO had taken many initiatives for promoting Ease of Doing Business. Now, no employer has to visit the office to get EPF code number. They just have to log in to the EPFO OLRE portal and fill in the details of their respective establishments online. The EPF code number will be generated automatically on a real time basis.

A warning note

A senior EPFO official has said they have information about 1,000 establishments, mainly hosiery units, which are having more than 20 employees but have not registered their workers for PF deduction. If the establishments do not comply with the norm by July, all of them will have to face the music from the first week of August.
