Forest Dept frees 55 acres from encroachers

Today, 55 acres located in Mattewara were cleared of illegal occupation by the Forest Department with the help of police. The above mentioned land would now be developed into the forest area in a systematic manner.

It is pertinent to mention that under the Ludhiana division, around 627 acres was under illegal occupation which has been freed by the department.

Charanjit Singh, Divisional Forest Officer, Ludhiana, said,“Fifty-five acres located at Mand-Uddowal village near Mattewara-Rahon Sutlej bridge is cleared of illegal occupation by the department.”

He informed that this land was under illegal occupation for a long time and said this land would now be developed into the forest area. He said saplings were being planted from today itself.

The Divisional Forest Officer said acting on the directions of the state government, several efforts were made to get the land freed from illegal occupation and 627 acres of prime forest land was now free of encroachment.

He said the vacated land include 175 acres in Haider Nagar jungle under Mattewara range, 79 acres in Hadiwal jungle, 19 acres in Gopalpur Bulendwal jungle, and 2 acres in Salempur jungle area. In Jagraon range, 147 acres land has been vacated in Kot Umra jungle area, 80 acres in Gorsian Khan Mohammad jungle and 70 acres in For Majri jungle area under the Samrala range.

The total value of the said land is worth Rs 220 crore.

He said a special plantation campaign under the supervision of Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has been undertaken on above mentioned land.
