Four-day kabaddi tournament begins

The four-day Sub-Divisional-Level Kabaddi (national style) Tournament began at three venues in Ludhiana district. This competition for boys and girls U-14, 18 and 25 years is being organised to commemorate the 550th Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Nanak Dev by the Punjab Sports Department across the state.

On the opening day, matches were played at three divisions - Threeke village in Ludhiana West division, Khassi Kalan village and Raikot under the Ludhiana East division. As many as 39 teams comprising around 470 players took part in this competition.

In total 20 teams (boys and girls) took part in Threeke village, wherein Sarinh village and Amrit Indo Canadian Academy, Ladian village, wrapped up their respective matches in the boys U-14 category.

Sarinh village defeated Green Land School 39-27 while Amrit Indo Canadian Academy got the better of Ekta Public School 35-20.

At Khassi Kalan village, 13 teams in all three age groups participated in which Government School, Aassi Kalan village secured first position in the girl’s U-14 section while Government High School, Khassi Kalan finished as first runners-up and Nankana Sahib Public School got third position.

In the boys’ U-14 group, Government School, Aassi Kalan, emerged triumphant and were followed by Nankana Sahib Public School at the second spot.

Likewise, in the girls’ U-18 category, Government School, Aassi Kalan, and Nankana Sahib Public School secured first two positions, respectively, and in the boys’ U-18 group, GMT Public School came out victorious. The second and third positions were bagged by Government School, Aassi Kalan, and Nankana Sahib Public School, respectively.

In the boys’ U-25 section, GMT Club defeated Nankana Sahib Public School to secure top position and in the girl’s section, Khassi Kalan Club beat GMT Club to win the title.

Similarly, matches were played at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Raikot, wherein six teams (girls) battled it out. In the U-14 category, Guru Nanak Public School, Bassian, outplayed Indo Canadian International School 31-23; in the U-18 group, SGND Convent School, Andlu village, outnumbered Indo Canadian International School, Bassian (Binjal), 37-31 whereas in the U-25 section, Indo Canadian International School, Bassian (Binjal), beat Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Jalaldiwad, 25-17.
