Four students from Panipat among 9 injured in accident

Nine persons, including students of a private school in Panipat, were injured in a road accident near Biza village, when their bus rammed into a truck from behind on the GT road, near Khanna.

The injured were returning to Panipat from Vaishno Devi shrine after paying obeisance. The accident took place when the bus rammed into rear of the truck when the latter’s driver suddenly applied brakes. After ramming into the truck the bus hit a tree on the roadside resulting injuries to about a dozen bus passengers mostly school students.

According to Ram Niwas, principal, PBRN Public School, Panipat, they left for Vaishno Devi shrine on Saturday. Today, at about 4.30 am when their bus reached near Biza village it rammed into a truck going in front of the bus after the truck driver suddenly applied brake, said Niwas. Later, the bus hit a roadside tree resulting injuries to nine persons, including four school students, he added.

After the accident, the injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital where they were undergoing treatment. The injured were identified as Ram Mehar, Sachin, Vishal, Ram Niwas, Zed Kumar, Sooraj, Ramesh, Som Datt and Suresh Kumar.

Later in the day, guardians of injured persons reached Khanna and took them to Panipat for treatment. After the accident, the truck driver managed to escape from the spot.

On contacting, the Khanna Sadar SHO said all the injured were out of danger. Action would be taken against the truck driver as per law after taking victims statements.
