Dream and Beauty Charitable Trust, known for setting up one of its kind senior citizens home with more than 200 residents at Doraha, has come out with yet another initiative to offer free dinner packets ‘Evening Brahm Bhoj’ to the poor and needy.
The first lot of 250 packs of ‘biryani’, as the packed evening meal is named, were distributed outside Durga Mata Mandir and railway station late in the evening yesterday.
Maj Gen Hemant Joneja, who accompanied the team of volunteers for distribution of meal packets, said the trust was already sending 4,500 meals to different schools (mid-day meal), slums and hospitals in the city everyday as its gesture towards children and the underprivileged.
“The ‘Evening Brahm Bhoj’ has been launched in the city to coincide with the birthday of Kyle Monga, son of Anil Monga, the chairman of the board of trustees,” he said.
He added that in addition to the senior citizens home — Heavenly Palace — the trust was running an orphanage – Heavenly Angels — a skill development centre ‘Margdarshan’ (all in Doraha) and a charitable hospital – Karma Healthcare — in Ludhiana city.
Earlier during the day, before flagging off the van carrying dinner packets for distribution in the city, senior advisor Dr SS Johl, along with trustee Neeru Sital and residents of the senior citizens home, formally launched the project at Heavenly Palace.
The ceremony also coincided with celebrating July-born residents’ birthday.
