Ludhiana: A freshers’ party was organised by the PG Department of Economics, Kamla Lohtia SD College, to welcome the students of MA- I. The event started with a dance performance by Parveen of MA- I, followed by modeling rounds, fun games and singing. The titles of ‘Ms Fresher’ and ‘Mr Fresher’ were bagged by Manjyoti and Gulshan, respectively.
Students shine in exams
Students of MA-II (political science) of the Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, made the college proud by proving their brilliance in university exams. Kirandeep Kaur brought laurels to the college by securing second position at Panjab University, Chandigarh, and first position in college with 77.81 per cent marks.
Guru Nanak Girls College
The result of MA-II (political science) declared by Panjab University, Chandigarh, is a matter of pride for Guru Nanak Girls’ College, Model Town. Harpreet Kaur bagged first position in college by securing 69.81per cent marks. Ramandeep Kaur bagged second position in the college by securing 69.75per cent marks. Mandeep Kaur bagged third position in the college by securing 68.81 per cent marks, respectively.
Sports Day celebrated
The GHG Khalsa Group of Colleges celebrated National Sports Day as a tribute to the phenomenal hockey player Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary. Dr SS Deol, Principal of the Degree College, was the chief guest and Capt Malkiat Singh (retd), a hockey coach, was the guest of honour. The PG Department of Physical Education organised a volleyball tournament, hockey match and tug of war competitions.
Teej celebrated at GHG college
Students of the GHG Harparkash College of Education for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, celebrated ‘Teeyan Teej Diyan’ on Thursday with fervour. College Principal Amandeep Kaur inaugurated the event. Various cultural events such as group songs and a group dance were held. A variety of stalls gave the vibrant look to the event. Traditional articles including bagh, pakhi, charkha, chhajj and enu were also displayed. A ramp walk in traditional Punabi attire left everyone awestruck.
Commerce prof releases book
A city-based commerce professor, Dr Ashwani Bhalla, SCD Government College, has come up with a book of poetry in Punjabi 'Tu Intzaar Na Kar'. The book has 64 poems, touching different issues of the contemporary society. Prof Ashwani Bhalla said this was his first book of poetry. He further said he had always felt that the society needed change. He said his poems were based on declining social values and increasing pollution woes.
Sanskrit Day celebrated
The Department of Sanskrit commemorated 'Sanskrit Day' at Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, Ludhiana. The programme began with the chanting of ‘Ram Stuti’. Mansi of BA-II sang the ‘Shiv Tandav Strot’. This was followed by the various competitions such as '’shloka’ chanting, declamation contest, singing and quiz. — TNS
