Ludhiana: The Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organised a Freshers’ Party for BEd students. Students participated in various events, including dance, songs, skit, mimicry and choreography. Aakriti Sehgal was adjudged Miss Fresher, while Aanchal Sharma and Riya Malik stood first and second runner-up, respectively. Manmeet Kaur bagged title of Miss Elegant and Kanika Malhotra won Miss Beautiful Smile title. Principal Dr Naginder Kaur awarded the titles to the winners and inspired students to work hard.

Khalsa College for Women

The Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, organised a Freshers’ Party “Welkom fiesta 2018” for first year students of Humanities on August 25. The event witnessed numerous dazzling performances by both seniors and juniors alike. The programme kicked-off with a ramp walk.  Nandini was adjudged Miss Fresher. The title of Miss Beautiful Smile went to Simran and Ishita was crowned Miss Charming. In masters category Gurleen was crowned Miss Fresher and Sakshi was bestowed upon with the title of Miss Charming.

NSS cadets collect funds 

Moved by the devastation and sufferings of people in Kerala floods, NSS cadets at the Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, collected relief fund from all students. The cadets motivated students by narrating various incidents, including Wing Commander Prashanth handing over baby to his anxious mother, Commander Vijay Verma saving life of a pregnant woman, Kerala fishermen turning saviours, hostel girls rescued by IAF etc. Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff and Class IV employees also contributed for this noble cause. In total 192 pair of footwears, 25 sets of tarpaulin and 30 mosquito nets were collected.

Guru Nanak Khalsa College

The NSS Unit and Youth Club of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, organised a donation drive to support Kerala flood victims. Various necessary items, including mosquito nets, slippers, blankets, dry ration etc. was collected from staff and students of the college and were handed over to the NGO “Ek Noor Sewa Kendra”. The NGO has come forward to support the Khalsa Aid by making a collection centre at “Neki ki Dukaan”. Principal Manjit Kaur Ghuman appealed students to donate for the noble cause.

Students bring laurels

Students of the GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, Ludhiana, achieved excellent results in BSc second semester exams conducted by the Panjab University, Chandigarh. Shivani Gupta obtained 90.4 per cent and stood first in the college. Kirandeep Kaur scored 86.5 per cent for second position whereas Ritika ranked third with 80.7 per cent. The toppers attributed their success to hard work and relentless efforts of their mentors. 

Saplings planted 

Being actively involved in social services and community development programmes 3 PB Girls BN NCC cadets of the Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Kicthlu Nagar, Ludhiana, launched a massive tree plantation drive under the guidance of Colonel JS Bali (Commanding Officer) along with Subedar Major Saudagar and Pallavi Khanna. By planting saplings, cadets increased green belt cover around slum areas and through e-awareness they made people aware about environment-friendly measures. 

Students prove their mettle 

Arts stream students of the Khalsa College for Women, Sidhwan Khurd, proved their brilliance in the university exams. In MA (English) fourth semester, Inderpreet Kaur stood first with 60.3 per cent, Baljeet Kaur ranked second by scoring 58 per cent and Jaspreet Kaur stood third with 57.37 per cent. In MA (political science) second semester, Sukhpal Kaur secured the first position with 72.5 per cent, Manpreet Kaur ranked second with 71 per cent whereas Navroj Kaur stood third with 70.7 per cent. Officiating Principal Prof Gurinder Kaur Sandhu congratulated the students as well as teachers. 

Girls shine in exams

MA (English) fourth semester students of the Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana, achieved excellent results in exams conducted by the Panjab University (PU). Gurbir Kaur stood third in the PU and first in the college by obtaining 65.6 per cent. Simranpreet Kaur ranked fifth in the varsity and second in the college by scoring 65.3 per cent. Kirandeep Kaur stood sixth in the university and third in the college with 64.7 per cent. — TNS
