Ludhiana, January 7
Dr Harish Kumar Verma, director of extension education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), has been decorated with the fellowship of National Academy of Veterinary Science (NAVS) at the 17th convocation of NAVS and scientific symposium on ‘Livestock sector towards one health, food security and safety’ held at Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar.
Dr Verma also presented a lead paper on multi-tier extension approach of GADVASU for enhancing farmers’ income, which was appreciated by the members of academy. He was honoured with the prestigious award due to his contributions made in the field for the benefit of farmers. He has to his credit more than 500 popular and 102 research articles, nine books and five manuals and editor of 20 GADVASU publications. To control the menace of infertility and for optimum management, he has developed 4 DVDs in local language. Among ICT tools, four android based mobile apps on dairy, reproduction, goat and pig farming were developed. In his more than three decades of career, he has supervised 11 masters and 4 PhD students.
Dr Verma was instrumental in the starting information centre in GADVASU with the aim of providing all facilities under single roof. He already has a fellowship of Indian Society for Study of Animal Reproduction and National Academy of Dairy Science (India).
He has been the leading force behind the strong vibrant and aggressive extension of the vet varsity. Dr Verma is member of various boards, advisory committees and on selection panels. Dr Verma has also developed international linkages and 10 different missions have been completed under different programmes.
