GGSSS, Gill village, girls romp home victorious

Hosts Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GGSSS), Gill village, defeated Gill Baseball Club to clinch the title in the 12th Junior Ludhiana District Baseball Tournament held on Friday.
In the final, hosts outperformed Gill Baseball Club 4-1 to wrap up the title. Karishma and Komal were the architects of victory chipping in with one score each.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, routed Ryan International School whom they blanked 10-0 with Karishma and Komal securing two runs each while Gill Baseball Club scrambled past Guru Nanak Model School, Janta Nagar, 3-2 in which Sandeep Pal Kaur got two runs.
In the match to decide the third spot, Guru Nanak Model School, Janta Nagar, survived a scare before coming out triumphant 1-0 against Ryan International School. The one scorer was Sadhana.
Harpreet Singh, sarpanch, Gill village, was the chief guest today. He gave away prizes to the winners. Harbir Singh Gill, president, Ludhiana District Baseball Association, and other office-bearers, besides members of the gram panchayat, were also present there.
Meanwhile, in the boy’s category, Guru Nanak Model School, Janta Nagar, overpowered Government High School, Sherpur, 8-5; RS Model School, Shastri Nagar, beat Khalsa Warrior Club 3-1 and BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, defeated Government Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, 10-7 to qualify for the knock-out phase.
In the quarterfinals, DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, edged out Guru Nanak International Public School 2-1; Nankana Sahib Public School outplayed BCM Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, 2-1; BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point, outclassed RS Model School, Shastri Nagar 6-2 and Guru Nanak Model School, Janta Nagar, outnumbered Guru Nanak School, Dholewal, 2-1 to enter the semifinals.
The semifinals and the final could not be played due to rain. These will now be played on Saturday.
