Gill Chowk flyover reopens for heavy traffic
Ludhiana: The Gill Chowk flyover was reopened for heavy vehicles on Tuesday evening. Earlier, the flyover was supposed to be reopened for heavy traffic on Wednesday, but the announcement was made a day before the schedule. Deputy Mayor Sarabjit Kaur announced the reopening of heavy vehicular traffic at the flyover. After a part of the flyover road had been damaged, MC officials had carried out repair work at the road on Monday. However, the officials had claimed that it was a minor problem with the road layer. MC’s Superintending Engineer Dharam Singh said there was no problem with the flyover road. “We have allowed heavy vehicular traffic at the Gill Chowk flyover,” he said. The flyover was closed for all kinds of traffic on May 13 night, when a reinforced wall had collapsed. In June, the flyover side (from Dholewal towards bus stand) was reopened. After repairing the damaged wall, the other side (from bus stand towards Dholewal) was reopened for light vehicles, including bikes and cars on July 19. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said: “The flyover is safe and it has been opened for heavy traffic.” — TNS
