Ludhiana, March 16

Punjabi singer Malkit Singh and international star ambassador of Punarjot eye donation movement endorsed the regular eye check-up after the age of 40 for detection of irreversible blindness, glaucoma, during his special visit to Dr Ramesh super speciality eye and laser centre, Ludhiana, as part of the World Glaucoma Week celebrations.

In the special campaign of glaucoma awareness ‘Know your eye pressure number’ by Punarjot eye bank society and Dr Ramesh from super speciality eye and laser centre under the aegis of the World Glaucoma Association, a series of awareness programme is being carried out to sensitise the public on the silent killer of vision in which seminars, group discussion, exhibition display in public places and colleges.

International star ambassador of Punarjot eye donation movement Malkit Singh visited the glaucoma awareness exhibition of Dr Ramesh super speciality eye and laser centre Ludhiana and appealed to society to come forward for regular check up of their eyes. He also requested for participation in the noble cause of eye donation movement.

He visited the recently operated free corneal transplantations and young patients who hailed from the neighbouring states.

International Punarjot coordinator Ashok Mehra also visited as guest of honour and appealed to the young generation to come forward for community involvement of eye health education.

Dr Ramesh said Glaucoma was second major irreversible cause of blindness and early detection, regular follow up and treatment could prevent from this disease. Eye health education is having great role in its prevention.

“We are doing special campaign, ‘Know your eye pressure number’ in which we are doing community screening camps where we send our expert team with non contact tonometry machine for detection of intra ocular pressure in society to detect early glaucoma especially after the age of 40,” said Dr Ramesh.

World Glaucoma Week was observed March 10 to 16, but Punarjot has extended their glaucoma awareness services for the whole of this month.
