Loss of more than Rs 8 crore has been reported in the major fire that broke out at Garg Acrylics Limited, Kanganwal , 5 km from here, last night. It took nine hours to put out the fire.
Professional director of the company Pardeep Makkar said goods and machinery worth more than Rs 8 crore had been destroyed by the fire. “The thread, cloth and automatic machines were reduced to ashes. Though the fire-fighting hydraulic system was in place, it took nine hours to extinguish the fire completely,” he added.
“The factory was closed after 2 pm since it was Sunday, and thankfully there was no casualty. At this stage, a short-circuit seems to be the only apparent reason behind the fire,” said the director.
The fire engulfed the entire floor of the building where a huge quantity of thread and cloth was stored along with machines.
Chowki in charge Kanganwal Balveer Singh said: “Fire brigades from Ludhiana were busy extinguishing the fire till 1.30 am. It was put out completely after nine-hour struggle.”
