Gurpreet Coaching Centre lifted the winners’ trophy in the 10th Sanjeev Kaushik Memorial Cricket Tournament that concluded at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, on Sunday.

Gurpreet Coasching Centre defeated Dr AVM Public High School, Mohar Singh Nagar, by 13 runs.

The tournament was organised in the memory of Sanjeev Kaushik, son of Inderjit Kaushik, Sessions Judge (retd), who died in a road accident.

Four teams, namely Government Senior Secondary School, Haibowal Khurd, International Public School, Sandhu Nagar, Gurpreet Coaching Centre and Dr AVM Public High School, took part in the tournament, organised on the league-cum-knock-out basis.

Gurpreet Coaching Centre and Dr AVM Public High School reached the finals in which the former, after winning the toss, decided to bat first.

In the stipulated 20 overs, Gurpreet Coaching Centre scored 131 runs after losing four wickets with Ansh scoring 36 runs, Ishaan 25 runs and Vansh 18 runs and Sayyam remained unconquered at 19 runs.

For Dr AVM School, Ashu claimed two wickets after conceding 20 runs in four overs, and Piyush took one wicket for 34 runs.

Chasing the target, Dr AVM School mustered only 118 runs with Rohan scoring 38 runs and Sandeep 31 runs for the loss of seven wickets.

For the winning side, Vansh and Piyush shared bowling honours. Vansh secured three wickets for 35 runs in his quota of four overs, while Piyush grabbed two wickets after giving away 15 runs in four overs.

Rohan was declared the best batsman of the tournament, while Abaypreet was adjudged the best all-rounder. Ashu was named the best bowler.

Mamta Ashu, councilor, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana and wife of Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Cabinet Minister, gave prizes to the winners.

Inderjit Kaushik and BK Mehta, Sessions Judge, Harveen Bhardwaj, Assitional District and Sessions Judge, Anil Bhardwaj, Anju Sharma, Deputy Advocate General, Punjab, Ramesh Lakhanpal, senior advocate, Charanjit Singh Saini, former District Sports Officer, Moga, Atul Kaushik, Rajesh Mehra, Amit Agnihotri, Deepak Bhardwaj and Ishaan Lakhanpal were among others present at the prize distribution function.
