Jaspal Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, addressed a seminar on “relevance of Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings in present times” today at a gurdwara in Sarabha Nagar. He said philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev had bestowed upon the Sikh community a unique and trustworthy identity and prior to him no religious leader had raised voice on issues related to politics, society and economy.

“If God is one according to the teachings of Guru Nanak, then how could the people in the world created by Him be different?” he asked.

Muktinder Singh commented that Guru Nank Dev combined devotion and music on the basis of his approach that music created a balance between emotions and logic in the human mind, which further was the basic principle of the Sikh philosophy of ‘miri and piri’. —TNS
