Trainees of Guru Nanak Stadium hogged the limelight, clinching top honours in the boys and girls sections in table tennis in the District-Level Games for Boys and Girls U-18 that concluded here today.
Rain played spoilsport on the final day, forcing the organisers to reschedule the matches today. Competition in some events could not be completed on Thursday. Now, these would be held along with those in the U-25 section, from August 6 to 8.
Competition in 17 sports disciplines was organised by the Punjab Sports Department during the three-day event.
The games were conducted under the Tandarust Punjab Mission and to celebrate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
In the boy’s group, Bal Bharti Public School and Green Land Public School, Civil City branch, secured second and third positions, respectively, while in the girl’s category, Hindi Putri Pathshala, Khanna, finished as runners-up, whereas the third position was bagged jointly by Bal Bharti Public School and Green Land Convent School, Sector 32 branch.

Boxing (girls) 44-46 kg: Kirandeep Kaur of Sher-e-Punjab Sports Academy, Chakkar, stood first, Amandeep Kaur of KBC second and Harpreet Kaur and Baneet Kaur third.
46-48 kg: Arshpreet Kaur of Sher-e-Punjab Sports Academy, Chakkar, stood first, Vispy Sunder of KBC second and Amandeep Kaur of KBC and Daropti Kaur of Chakkar village third.
48-50 kg: Rajbir Kaur of Chakkar village stood first, Samaira Talwar of DAV Public School second and Sudha Kumari third.
50-52 kg: Gurpreet Kaur of Chakkar village stood first, Sehajman Kaur of GGSK second and Diya third.
52-54 kg: Navjot Kaur of Chakkar village stood first and Lovleen Kaur of GGSK second.
Kabaddi (girls): Government Senior Secondary School, Assi Kalan, beat Government Senior Secondary School, Dakha, and Government Senior Secondary School, Kotala, beat Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Gill village, to enter final.
Sacred Heart students win medals
Khanna: Students of Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Khanna, brought laurels to the institution in the District-Level Wrestling Competition organised by the Punjab Sports Department in Ludhiana on July 30. Harsh Khatri of Class XII won a gold medal in U-18 category while Sirpreet Singh Bhatti of Class X won a bronze medal. Rev Fr William Sahota, the director of the institution, and Rev Sr Rose Philips, principal, congratulated the young achievers on their success.
