Heaps of garbage raise stink at Jugiana village

Jugiana village, located at a distance of 3 km from here, once popular as Garden Colony, is literally on the verge of collapse. Reason — heaps of garbage continue to stare the residents in the face day in and day out while the Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities, it seems, need more time to act. Heaps of garbage can be seen around the village pond situated in the heart of the village.
The Municipal Corporation has failed to address the problem and the residents have no option but to put up with filth and foul smell. Often many people fall prey to various diseases. This season, it is believed, not even a single home in the village will pass unscathed without dengue, if the situation is allowed to prevail. The dumps all around the village pond have not only become an eyesore, but also become a symbol of mockery and scorn for the council which has thrown all norms and scruples to winds.
Former MP Bibi Rajinder Kaur Bulara, who resides in this village, rued, “Residents curse the MC employees and even threaten to sit on dharna against the MC authorities, but nothing has been done so far. It seems that the issue of cleanliness has taken a back seat in this village as no authority is seriously bothered to ensure cleanliness. Garbage has not been lifted for the past one year.”
“It is really a shame that we are residing in a village where all norms and scruple have been thrown to winds. What hurts the most is the callous attitude of the authorities concerned which has never spared a single thought to find a solution to this evergreen problem which plagues the village for around past one year,” rued Pawanpreeet Singh, a resident.
Councillor Paramjit Singh Garcha said he was very well aware of the problem and the same had been intimated to the Municipal Corporation as well, but no concrete step had yet been taken in this regard.
Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain could not be contacted because he was busy in a meeting.
