After buying a new car, the second thing that you intend to do is getting a high security registration plate (HSRP) affixed.
The process, which is cumbersome and takes a month of Sundays, has been simplified.
The District Transport Officer (DTO), Anil Garg, has asked dealers to install the HSRPs before delivering vehicles.
The District Transport Officer said, “Following the guidelines of the Supreme Court of India, I have instructed all dealers to deliver vehicles to owners only after installing the number plates.”
Now, the dealers will have to issue provisional registration certificates (RCs) along with permanent registration numbers. Earlier, the dealers used to issue temporary numbers.
The DTO said, “Now, the dealers cannot issue temporary numbers.”
The SC has not set any deadline as far as the delivery of a vehicle is concerned. The DTO said, “We are yet to work it out. As of now, there is no deadline for the automobile dealers.”
The new instructions have elicited a mixed response from people. Aashish Kumar, who has been waiting for the installation of an HSRP for the past three months, said, “The government should have implemented the orders much earlier.”
Surinder Kumar, whose daughter is to get married the next month, said, “The move will save people from harassment. But those, who want to gift a car to their children, will face problems. Earlier, owners would get vehicles soon after making the payment, but now they will have to wait until the registration plates are installed.”
