Installation ceremony
Ludhiana: Rotary Club, Ludhiana Greater, installed Rotaract Club supporters comprising students from different local colleges in the presence of chief installation officer past district governor Gurjeet Singh Sekhon, president, Dr Param Saini , assistant governor HS Kharbanda, director Amanpreet, secretary Vikas Babbar and other club members. The club also organised a blood donation camp at a local gurdwara, which was attended by many members and young donors from the Rotaract Club. In another function at Differently Abled Centre, president and secretary were invited to promote the project “Gift of Life”. Any needy person below 18 years of age is provided full financial support for cardiac surgery in top hospitals of the country under the project.
600 examined at medical camp
Over 600 patients were examined in a free medical camp organised by Deepak Hospital here. Besides free medicines, facility of free vaccination, diagnostic tests was also provided in the camp to patients. A team of specialist doctors from the hospital, along with physiotherapist and dietician, rendered their services to patients.
Distribution of artificial limbs
Bharat Vikas Parishad, Tagore branch, organised a camp for distribution of articial limbs among physically challenged persons at Rishi Nagar here. As many as 41 persons were given artificial limbs (23), calipers (15), wheel chair (one) and tricycles (2) on the occasion. The camp was sponsored by Sudesh Gulati, who was also the chief guest at the function.
Inspection of PSPCL stores
The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) chief engineer (store and workshop), Jagjit Singh Suchu, inspected central store and checked cleanliness, maintenance, storage of store items and transformers. On learning about shortage of 62 KV and single phase transformers as well as power cables, he arranged supply of the short items from other stores on the spot. The chief engineer directed the controller of stores and senior executive engineer for proper maintenance of stores and immediate disposal of discarded items. He also asked store officials to work in coordination with the operations wing of the power utility and to ensure that the PSPCL staff or members of the public were not harassed for supply of items from stores. Among those present on the occasion were controller of stores BS Lakha, senior XEN (central stores), Ludhiana, Daljit Singh, SDO (stores) SK Gupta and SDO (disposals) Harjit Singh.
Joint replacement surgery
A special campaign to provide affordable joint replacement surgery for the general public was formally inaugurated at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday. Prem Kumar Gupta, secretary of the DMCH Managing Society, inaugurated the camp. Gupta said such camps would be held every Sunday for the next six weeks from 10 am to 1 pm in orthopaedics OPD of the hospital. “These camps will be helpful for persons suffering from joint disorders, who are not able to bear the cost of replacement surgery,” he said. The team of surgeons headed by Dr Mohammad Yamin, which includes Dr Rajnish Garg, Dr Harpal Selhi, Dr Deepak Jain, Dr Pankaj Mahindra and Dr Shekhar Singal, will carry out surgeries. The package includes imported high-quality implants, medicines, other expenses — hospital bed charges, operation fee, blood and X ray investigations and food — for a patient. Dr Yamin said the cost of single joint replacement was around Rs 2 lakh, but during the camp it would be done at Rs 1.25 lakh. If a patient wanted both the knees replaced, then he would be charged Rs 1 lakh more, he added. TNS
Woman’s death: Husband, two others booked
Ludhiana: In the mysterious death of a woman identified as Jyoti, the police have booked her husband, Anil Kumar, one Vinay Kumar and Asha Rani, resident of New Subash Nagar. Complainant Shashi Bala of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar said her daughter was married to Anil in 2014 and she was subjected to mental and physical torture for want of dowry. On July 22, the accused tied Jyoti's neck with dupatta and hung her from the ceiling fan and she died. Raids are on to nab the accused.
13 booked under Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act
The Daresi police have booked as many as 13 persons on the charge of immoral trafficking. They have been identified as Parminla, Kusum, Sunita, Sitara, Sita Devi, Kanchan, Kiran, Rehmat, Videshi Shah, Irfan, Nijam, Ajay and Imran. SHO Daresi Dalip Kumar said on July 23, a tip-off was received that some persons were running a brothel at a rented accommodation and a raid was conducted immediately and the accused were nabbed. The police said the brothel was functional for the past few months and area residents had also expressed anger over suspected immoral activities. TNS
