Ludhiana, June 3
Contrary to the tall claims of the state government and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) about providing uninterrupted power supply to all sections of consumers during the summer season, residents of Jagraon and its adjoining areas continue to grapple with scheduled and unscheduled power cuts. These prolonged power cuts have been taking a toll on residents’ health in this scorching heat.
In Jagraon town, power cuts of duration varying from three to five hours have become a daily affair. The situation in rural areas is worst where power cuts are being imposed for longer duration. According to villagers, they have been facing power cuts of duration from five to seven hours daily.
It is not only domestic consumers who are facing the problem, small scale industrialists and shopkeepers are also having a tough time. “We have been experiencing power cuts ranging from four to six hours daily. It has become difficult for us to work in the absence of power. We have to depend on generators to work but it proves costly,” said Mehak, a Jagraon-based boutique owner.
“The demand for electricity is going to increase further in the coming days,” said Sunil, owner of a salon.
