Jail for issuing fake Press ID cards, letters

Judicial Magistrate Akashdeep Singh Malawi has convicted Manpreet Singh of Phase-I, Urban Estate, Dugri, Ludhiana in a case of cheating. He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for two years. However the court acquitted his wife Pritpal Kaur finding no evidence against her.

He was booked for cheating at the Sarabha Nagar police Station on March 11, 2014, following a complaint by Chandershekar Dharni, Resident Editor of MH-1 news channel.

According to the prosecution, the accused was issuing fake appointment letters and ID cards on the letter head of the news channel MH-1 by posing as its chairman.

One such fake letter was issued to Kanwaljit Singh of Kohinoor Enclave, Patiala, by taking a sum of Rs 3 lakh. Two another fake ID cards were also produced by the complainant before the police, as per the prosecution.

He was also facing accusations of forging the letter head, stamps and signatures of the chairman of the news channel.
