Jaskaranveer, Vaibhav help Ludhiana overhaul Jalandhar score, get 3 points

Jaskaranveer Singh and Vaibhav Kalra cracked centuries to help Ludhiana overhaul Jalandhar’s first innings score of 376 runs and secure three points in the second super league match in the ongoing Punjab Inter-District (U-19) Cricket Tournament at Burlton Park, Jalandhar, today.

Resuming at overnight score of five for no loss, Ludhiana batsmen played sensibly. They chose their shots judiciously and denied their opponents a little chance to overawe them.

Last night not out batsmen Jaskaranveer Singh and Saksham Jhamb started the day’s proceedings on a cautious note. Saksham was the first to go at his individual score of 34 with the score board reading 48 for one.

Then, Ludhiana skipper Jaish Jain arrived at the wicket and he, along with Jaskaranveer, steadied the innings and kept the score board ticking.

The duo carried the score to 161 runs before Jaish was plumbed leg before wicket. He contributed 78 runs.

The next man in was Vaibhav Kalra. Jaskaranveer and Vaibhav figured in an invaluable 238-run partnership for the third wicket that also saw their team surpass hosts’ first innings total.

Jaskaran remained unbeaten on 150 runs, laced with 18 hits over the fence, which came off 250 balls, consuming 363 minutes, whereas Vaibhav played a hurricane innings. He scored 142 runs off 161 balls with the help of three sixes and sixteen fours.

Ludhiana were 406 for three after 91 overs when it was called a day. On the basis of first innings lead, Ludhiana earned three points while Jalandhar got one point. 

Ludhiana, in the next match, scheduled to be played on May 3 and 4 in Ludhiana, will take on Ropar.

Jalandhar (first innings): 376 for 5 in 95 overs (Aditya Pratap Singh 108, Azam Nazar 79*, Rajan Kashyap 65, Jatin Sahota 44*, Karan Joshi 42 and Ridham Satyawan 24; Gurmehar Singh 3 for 64 and Jaish Jain 1 for 70).

Ludhiana (first innings): 406 for 3 in 91 overs (Jaskaranveer Singh 150*, Vaibhav Kalra 142, Jaish Jain 72 and Saksham Jhamb 34; Aryan Mehra 1 for 60, Lovepreet Singh 1 for 94 and Arun Kalia 1 for 96). — OC
