Jaskiran shifted, Brar to take charge again in city

Municipal Commissioner Jaskiran Singh has been transferred and Deputy Commissioner of Fatehgarh Sahib Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar will replace him.
Jaskiran has been posted as Director of Rural Development and Panchayats. He joined as MCL Commissioner in March 2017. Being CEO of Ludhiana Smart City Limited, he made efforts to speed up projects under the mission. Works of rooftop solar panel and LED street lights began during his term. Besides, tenders for a railway overbridge and a railway underbridge on Pakhowal Road and several other projects under the Smart City mission were floated during his term.
“My experience was good with outgoing Municipal Commissioner Jaskiran Singh. Whenever I highlighted any public grievance, he took action on it. He works without discrimination. He is a good officer,” said BJP leader and former councillor Inder Aggarwal.
Meanwhile, Brar would take over as MC Commissioner for a third time. She is likely to get relieved from the office of DC Fatehgarh Sahib on Monday.
When Brar was chief administrator of GLADA in Ludhiana, she was given additional charge of MC Ludhiana Commissioner in November 2016.
When a large number of illegal hoardings of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) were displayed on direction boards, electricity poles and other structures on Ferozepur Road (National Highway 95) before the then ruling party’s Moga rally on December 8, 2016, Brar ordered for the removal of all unauthorised hoardings from the city. A special drive was conducted against unauthorised political hoardings during the night of December 7.
A week after her action against illegal hoardings, Brar was transferred from Ludhiana. When the model code of conduct for Punjab Assembly elections came into effect, Brar was appointed MCL Commissioner once again in January 2017. She was transferred from here in March 2017.
Challenges before new Commissioner
The civic body’s financial condition is not good due to which many development works have not taken place. The major issues facing the city include illegal constructions, choked sewers, contaminated water supply, water-logging, non-functional street lights, broken roads, polluted Buddha Nullah, fleecing of visitors at parking lots, poor condition of many parks and green belts.
Other postings
Joint Commissioner Anita Darshi has also been transferred. Now, she has been posted as MC Moga Commissioner. Besides, ADC (General) of Fatehgarh Sahib JK Jain has been now posted as Additional Commissioner MCL.
