Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha (BJGVJ) had paid homage to Prof Yash Paul, a renowned scientist, on his demise.
In a statement issued by Ranjit Singh, president, Dr Arun Mitra, general secretary and MS Bhatia, organising secretary of the BJGVJ said that this is an irreparable loss.
They said Prof Yash Pal was not just an astrophysicist but he related himself with the common people of the country. It was in 1992 that under his leadership a jatha of BJGVJ carrying the message of science in 50,000 villages and several hundred towns and cities from Kutch to Kohima and from Ladakh to Lakshadweep.
The BJGVJ leaders said while moving as enthusiastic well trained group, the volunteers had interacted with millions of people in dozens of dialects and languages. It helped them to grow as better humans and increased their wisdom.
“The barriers of caste, creed and culture broke down. Women lifted their veils to look at what these young volunteers were doing in their village chaupals or around their wells. Old people nodded in appreciation and commended about the scientific practices that they had inherited from their past. The children and young examined the vision of tomorrow’s India.”
The leaders, further added that the jatha had covered six varied themes like health, water, environment, superstitions and scientific thinking; appropriate technology and illiteracy. “Under the leadership of Prof Yash Pal, the jatha had brought hope where despair reigned,” they said.
