Khalsa College emerge champions on Day 1

Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, today emerged champions in basketball on the opening day of the District-Level Games for Boys and Girls (U-15) being held here.
Around 1,200 players are vying for top honours in 17 sports disciplines in the three-day event being organised by the Punjab Sports Department under the Tandarust Punjab Mission and to celebrate the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev.
Khalsa College for Women got the better of Government Girls College, Ludhiana, 46-23 to wrap up the title.
In handball (boys), Satish Chander Dhawan Government College thrashed GRD School 22-4 while PAU XI overpowered Government Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road branch, 18-10 to move to the next round.
In the girls section (kho-kho), Government College, Ludhiana, prevailed over Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, 14-11 and Ghalib Kalan village defeated Shifali International School 11-6 to set up the title clash.
In the boys category (semi-final), Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar ‘A’ outplayed Shifali International School 13-5 and Azad Club, Pamal village, beat Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, 9-4 to settle for the summit clash.
In volleyball (boys), Guru Nanak Stadium blanked Shahi Sports College, Samrala, 2-0; Coaching Centre, Naresh Chander Stadium, Khanna, scored an identical win (2-0) over Sarhali Club and Rohaan village pipped Rajemajra Club 2-0.
Nitish Chopra, Pardeep Yadav, Aryan and Rajat Budhiraj won their respective matches to complete the semi-final line-up in badminton.
In the quarterfinals, Nitish outplayed Navneet Singh 2-0; Pardeep outclassed Agam Sood 2-0; Aryan beat Karan Kumar 2-0 and Rajat defeated Varun Kumar 2-0 to secure berths in the last four stages.

Boys 400m race: Baljeet Singh of Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, stood first, Kunwar of SCD Government College second and Suraj of Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, third.
Girls 400m race: Vipanjit Kaur of GNGC, Ludhiana, stood first, Loepreet Kaur of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, second and Yamini of GNGC, Ludhiana, third.
Boys 1,500m race: Ranjot Singh of Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana, stood first, Ajay Kumar of Guru Nanak Stadium second and Mohveer of Ludhiana third.
Girls 1,500m race: Usha Rani of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, stood first, Amanpreet of GNGC, Ludhiana, second and Omvati Kumari of Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, third.
Boys shot-put: Harjot Singh of National College, Doraha, stood first, Jaspreet Singh of Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, second and Varanraj Singh of Dugri third.
Girls shot-put: Gurbani Kaur of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, stood first, Kamaldeep Kaur of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, second and Amandeep Kaur of Ludhiana third.
