Chandigarh, July 24
The disciplinary committee of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana today suspended the licence of advocate Rachna Dev of Ludhiana for ‘grave misconduct’.
Considering the facts and circumstances, the committee ordered that the name of the advocate be removed from the state rolls of the Bar Council for two years. Thereafter, the advocate’s conduct shall remain under the direct supervision of a committee appointed by the Bar Council.
Recently, the Supreme Court had called upon the Bar Council of India to submit the status of such complaints against advocates and sought the record of the pendency of such cases.
One Satiya Devi had filed a complaint against advocate Rachna Dev. She had accused the advocate of misconduct, snatching money, threatening and assault.
The committee said the allegations proved beyond reasonable doubt and the advocate has made liable to be punished by the Bar Council under Section 35 of the Advocates Act, 1961. TNS
