Khamano: The District Legal Services Authority organised a legal awareness camp at Government Senior Secondary School, Khamano, in which Secretary of District Legal Service Authority-cum-CJM Parshant Verma was the main speaker. In his address, he informed students about different schemes and services, including free legal help of advocates in courts and free legal awareness. He also told the students about the working of Lok Adalats and Samjhota Sadan to settle cases by the way of compromise. He also stated anyone can approach district courts to take free legal help. He gave phone numbers, including 1098 Child Helpline, 1091 Women Helpline. Advocate Hitesh Thor, School Principal Satpal Singh, school staff and students were also present on the occasion. OC

Mehta is BJP dist vice-prez

Ludhiana: The district president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ravinder Arora, has nominated Parminder Mehta as vice- president of the district (Urban) unit with approval of the party high command. Mehta, a former councillor and spokesperson of the Congress, had quit the party before the Assembly elections to join the BJP. His wife Sushma Mehta is a sitting Congress councillor from Ward No. 35.

Water samples taken

A team of health officials, led by the district epidemiologist, Dr Ramesh Kumar and Dr Munir Mohammed, took samples of drinking water from various places in the city. According to officials, a sample was also taken from Harmilap Water Supply in the Industrial Area B where campers for supplying water to industrial and commercial units were being filled. All samples have been sent for chemical analysis to the state laboratory in Chandigarh.

CICU delegation 

Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertaking (CICU) Advisor SS Bedi in a statement said the delegation consisting of 48 members, including 12 women entrepreneurs, had got a warm welcome by the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, the organiser of INTERMACH-2017, SUBCON Thailand-2017 and Sheet Metal Asia-2017 being held at Bangkok these days. He said the objectives include meet exhibitors of hi-tech machinery and equipment, find out sources from widest selection of machines for engineering industry, attend technical seminars and to undertake factory visits to a few companies with the motive of upgrading Ludhiana SMEs and find out possibilities of promoting bilateral trade and business. He said nowadays, upgrading SMEs remained the main focus for survival and CICU had been striving hard for the growth and promotion of Ludhiana SMEs. Therefore, keeping in view the importance of making visits to international trade fairs and to be aware with latest technology, automation and modern techniques, CICU looked forward to Ludhiana SMEs upgrade through the aforesaid delegation visit. 

World Telecommunication Day

The Institution of Engineers (IE), Ludhiana Local Centre, celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on Thursday. The theme for the day was Big Data for Big Impact. The chief guest on the occasion was Vikas Sachdeva, Sales Head, Idea Cellular Ltd., Ludhiana. He was welcomed by members of the institution. In his welcome address, Gurpreet Singh Walia, honorary secretary, IE, Ludhiana, apprised the audience about various activities being taken up the Ludhiana local centre. TNS
