Ludhiana, June 25

After the police booked Lok Insaaf Party leader Randhir Singh Sivia and others for allegedly kidnapping and thrashing two men in a matter related to a chunk of ‘disputed’ land, LIP chief-cum-MLA, Atam Nagar, Simarjit Singh Bains has accused some persons of allegedly making an attempt of taking illegal possession on a land by using the name of top cop Sukhchain Singh Gill.

Accusing the police of being hand in gloves with land grabbers, Bains said a false case of kidnapping was registered against Sivia and others. He said: “The land belongs to Harinderpal Singh, who brought the matter to my knowledge that land grabbers made an attempt to take the possession of his land, whose estimated market value is more than Rs 100 crore. Instead of taking action against them, the police booked LIP leader Harinderpal and others in a false case of kidnapping.”

Bains, Sivia and Harinderpal met the Police Commissioner seeking inquiry into the matter. Harinderpal said: “A false complaint has been registered against us. Some land grabbers wanted to take the possession of the land. Some local politicians also interfered in the matter.”

The disputed land is said to be located near Buddha Nullah on the Old GT Road. The Daresi police on Sunday booked LIP leader-cum-former councillor Randhir Singh Sivia, Harinderpal Singh, BS Randhawa, Bunty and Simran and 4 to 5 unidentified persons under Sections 365, 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC.

Sukhvinder Singh of Sangur district claimed that the 7,000 square yard land belongs to his employer Randhir Singh of Samura village in Sangrur district.

Sukhwinder said on June 23, he along with Naib Singh was sitting there for the security of land,  when the accused came around 10:30 pm and started thrashing them. “They allegedly kidnapped me and Naib Singh in our own car. However, the car engine went off near Jagraon Bridge. Some more men reached there and they started beating us again. Meanwhile, our employer Randhir Singh along with his friends reached there and freed us. The accused fled from the spot after threatening us,” Sukhwinder said in the complaint. Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill said: “The case is not in my knowledge, as I was on leave. I joined office today. I have asked DCP Ashwani Kapoor to inquire into the matter. The fact is that I don’t know any of the parties. We will conduct a fair probe in the matter.”
