Ludhiana, June 4

The official website of Ludhiana has not been updated for a long time, thus proving to be more confusing than helpful. The website, www.Ludhiana. nic.in, mentions a few numbers which are either non-existent or are not reachable.

Random calls made by The Tribune to see if the public would be able to get through the officials/numbers revealed that the landline number of Zone A office of MC, Ludhiana, was non-existent. The same was the response from the landline number of the SDO of PSPCL at Dehlon. The reply from the landline number of the SMO Samrala was: “The number does not exist. Please check and redial”.

According to information, National Informatics Centre (NIC) manages the website and the offices concerned are supposed to send all updated information to the centre.

Sukhjinder Singh, a resident Dandi Swami area, said when he dialled a few landline numbers given on the website, either the calls were not picked up or the reply was “the number does not exist”. “If they have created the website to help us, then the mobile numbers of staff/officials should also be mentioned on it,” said the resident.

Sukhjinder also said as many officials/staff were getting mobile allowance, they should be approachable to the public at least during the working hours.

Sources confirmed the website was updated about seven or eight months ago.

The District Information Officer, Kashmir Singh, said by tomorrow, they will send all fresh information to NIC for updating the website. The departments concerned have to send fresh information whenever changes take place, but when information is sent late, the website cannot be updated on time, he added.

“The Deputy Commissioner wants the website to be updated soon for the convenience of the public, and we will do it in a day or two,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police website, www.ludhianapolice.in, was found to be satisfactory. Though the response was late on a few numbers (as the numbers were busy or the phone was picked up late), still the staff provided information sought by the caller.
