Ludhiana: Ludhiana and Nawanshahr scripted victories on the opening day in the first leg matches of the Sub-Junior Punjab State Football Tournament for Boys being played at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, here today.

Ludhiana, September 28

Ludhiana and Nawanshahr scripted victories on the opening day in the first leg matches of the Sub-Junior Punjab State Football Tournament for Boys being played at Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, here today.

Ludhiana quelled a strong challenge from Fatehgarh Sahib before winning it 5-3 while Nawanshahr also toiled hard to outplay Mohali 2-1.

Four teams are taking part in the first leg matches of the tournament being organised by the Ludhiana District Football Association under the aegis of the Punjab Football Association.

Principal of GNPS Parvinder Kaur inaugurated the tournament and wished the participants good luck.

Varinder Sharma and Ranbir Singh, president and general secretary, respectively, of the tournament organising association, besides Shivtar Singh Bajwa, Narinder Singh Malhi, Rupinder Singh Sandhu, Jatinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhjinder Singh, Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Ram Lubhaya and Bhupinder Singh, were present at the inaugural function. — OC
