In an incident pointing to the presence of drug mafia who are targeting university youths, a man was caught by the Government Railway Police with 10 grams of heroin at the local railway station.
During his interrogation, he told the police that he had come from a village of Haryana. He had brought heroin from an unidentified person from Sonepat and he was going to supply it to some youths at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar.
The man has been identified as Musammi Ameet Nandal, a resident of Udeshipur village in Sonepat, Haryana. A case under Section 21, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against Musammi.
Inderjit Singh, GRP station in-charge, said they were interrogating the man to find out his channels of source and supply. “In preliminary investigation, we have found that he has been supplying the contraband for a long time. Because he is around 25 years of age, it is easy for him to get mixed up with students,” he said.
