Man held with illegal weapon
LUDHIANA: The PAU police have nabbed Kamaljit Singh of Basant Nagar. The ADCP (III), Gurpreet Purewal, said Kamaljit was stopped for checking on suspicion at a naka in Basant Nagar. During checking of his belongings, cops recovered a country-made pistol. A case under Section 25, Arms Act, was registered at the PAU police station. Officials said remand of the suspect would be sought from the court to enquire about the reason of keeping an illegal weapon. TNS
One held for illegal mining
Ludhiana: The Meharban police have nabbed Jagtar Singh of Sasrali Colony on the charge of illegal mining. The police said secret information was received about a person on way to Mangat village with illegally mined sand loaded from the Sutlej river on tractor-trailer . After intercepting the tractor-trailer, driver was asked to produce any proof of the sand, but he failed to do so. A case under the Mining Act has been registered against the suspect. TNS
One held with 12,000 Euros
Phillaur: The police have nabbed Surinder Singh, a resident of Hargobind Nagar, Phagwara, and recovered Rs 33.63 lakh in cash and 12,000 Euros from him. While giving more information, DSP, Phagwara, Davinder Singh Attri, said the suspect was coming to Phagwara from Ludhiana in a bus. He was nabbed at a check point near Sutlej bridge on Wednesday evening. The police seized money and handedover the suspect to enforcement officer Jagminder Pal, the DSP added. The police and the ED were investigating the case, the DSP said. OC
Softball trials on August 3
Ludhiana: The Punjab Softball Association (PSA) will organise trials to select the girl probables (senior) at the Government Model Senior Secondary School ground, Punjab Agricultural University campus, on August 3 from 9.30 am onwards. According to Pran Nath Passi, honorary secretary of the PSA, the Punjab teams for the upcoming North Zone Softball Championship and the Senior National Softball Championship will be finalised from these probables. 7 cops given warm farewell
Ludhiana: Seven city policemen, who retired today, were given warm farewell party by the staff members at the Police Commissioner's office here on Wednesday. The cops who retired are inspector Hardev Singh, SIs local rank Balbir Singh, Paramjit Singh, Jaspal Singh, Ranjit Singh, Vijay Kumar and Jagdev Singh. They shared their working experience in the Punjab Police. ACP Headquarters Manoj Gursi, Reserve Police Lines inspector Rajinder Singh and Line Officer Davinder Singh were also present and interacted with the retiring cops. TNS

Ludhiana: Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) week was celebrated from July 25 to 31 at Christian Medical College (CMC). ORS saves life and can be used by everyone and anyone and is a cost-effective treatment for diarrhoea. A poster-making and slogan-writing competition was held. TNS
GADVASU plants 800 saplings
Ludhiana: The landscaping wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) planted a total of 800 saplings in various areas of the campus. AS Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of GADVASU, appreciated the plantation drive and said the drive was dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
